What's Better? Open E-Liquids or Disposables

For those that have been with us since day one, props to you for supporting us.  If you're newer to the vape game, welcome!  In today's blog, we'll be breaking down the pro's and con's between our open e-liquids and our new disposables.  Each have their respective benefits, shortcomings, and typically adheres to a certain type of user.  Do you fall into the category that likes variety in your device?  Or are you more of an on-the-go user that likes a simpler flavor to use and abuse without a second thought on maintenance.  Find out all this and more down below!

WHAT IS AN OPEN E-LIQUID VS. a disposable?

First thing's first, we need to define what is an open e-liquid and how that is different from a disposable device.  Open e-liquids are how BLVK started.  Original collections such as BLVK, FRZN, SALT, BLVK N' Yellow are all perfect examples of open e-liquids.  Open e-liquids, as the name suggests, are bottles of juice that have to be inserted into a refillable pod or tank which is then powered by a battery and vaped.  Due to the customizability of the e-liquid and the devices that support it, nicotine levels can vary from not having any nicotine (0MG) to up to 50MG.

A disposable on the other hand, as noted with our newest BLVK collection, Ello, is an all-in-one device.  E-liquid is filled into a reservoir that also contains the coil and battery in one device.  Ello devices are non-refillable and non-rechargeable, meaning you have that one flavor to use and abuse.  Once that e-liquid is finished and/or the battery runs out, you simply toss the device away.

THE PRICE DIFFERENCE

Generally speaking, open e-liquids are going to be a more cost effective route to take.  This is assuming you already have a device, tank, and extra coils to vape the e-liquid, of course.  The reason why open e-liquids are generally more cost-effective than disposables is simply because it's a lot cheaper to buy a bottle of juice than a device with juice in it.  On top of that, the basic rule of saving on bulk applies, where a 60ML bottle of e-liquid or even purchasing several bottles of e-liquid saves you more cash than again, buying a full-on device with e-liquid in it.

The slightly higher price that's contained in an Ello disposable is due to having the convenience of being able to open the package and have a fully assembled device, coil, wick, and e-liquid all ready to vape in one go.

THE CONVENIENCE FACTOR

As we stated above, open e-liquids require more items to be able to consume the wonderful flavors you know and love.  This points towards disposables winning this category.  The ease-of-use is hard to beat, considering you can keep multiple Ello flavors on you at any time without taking up too much space in your pockets or purse.  Switching between flavors comes down to selecting a different device each time.  And upon finishing a flavor you can simply toss the entire device into the trash.

Compare this with open e-liquids, you have the e-liquid bottle, your setup which might consist of a device and pod or tank, and potentially coils to replace the pod or tank after burning it out and/or switching flavors.  If you're like most of us here at BLVK, you might suffer from flavor ADHD and have to have multiple bottles of e-liquid on you at any given time.  Sometimes it could prove to be a hassle carrying several bottles or tanks on you whenever your cravings change.  Nevertheless, when it comes to variety, there is certainly something for everyone.

THE POWER FACTOR

From a performance perspective, there's both a huge difference and not-as-big-of-a-difference when it comes to the devices that power your vaping experience.  Depending on your vaping habits and niche you prefer your hardware as, disposables and open vape systems can be fairly similar.  For example, if you are a nicotine salt user, an ello disposable and a Suorin open pod system are fairly neck-and-neck in terms of flavor quality and vapor production.  On the other hand, however, if you are a freebase e-liquid user and rely on hardware that utilizes lower resistance coils to produce a lot of vapor production, you'll find there's a night-and-day difference.  Again, these differences lie with how you vape.  One method isn't better or worse than the other.

THE MAINTENANCE FACTOR

ELLO - jollyapple ice

BLVK N' YELLOW - MANGO BANANA ICE

Maintenance refers to the amount of effort one puts into their vaping habit that does not have to do with physically vaping.  Maintenance includes, but is not limited to: charging your device, replacing coils, building coils, or refilling e-liquid into your tank.  Since disposables are truly a one-and-done solution where you literally throw the entire device away once the e-liquid runs out, disposables win this category.

For those that are still on the open e-liquids game, all hope isn't lost!  Salt nicotine users typically rely on devices with pre-built coils existing as pods.  Simply replacing your pod and/or spending an hour or so charging your device are still miles away from the actual maintenance work required by more hardware-focused vaping enthusiasts!

THE YOU FACTOR

At the end of the day, trying to figure out whether disposables or open e-liquids are a better choice really just falls onto you as the vaper.  Between the true cost of the setup, maintenance, and overall vaping preferences, the decision can really go in whichever way you want it to go.  For convenience sake, disposables are undoubtedly the better option.  For those looking for more of a variety, open e-liquid systems still reign supreme.  Quite frankly, due to disposables being relatively inexpensive, why not try both setups and see which you resonate with more?
